Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek

Kanchenjunga, located between Nepal and Sikkim, India, is considered one of the most beautiful mountains in the world and is believed to be where the Gods live. The area around Kanchenjunga Base Camp has unique plant life and animals due to its high rainfall during summer. The region is home to the elusive Snow Leopard, red panda, Himalayan black bear, and Assamese macaque. The Kanchenjunga Base Camp was first opened in 1950 and became a Commercial trekking destination after 1988. The trek begins at an altitude of 2200m and rises to 3000m in the first three days. The trail winds through high ridges, steep gorges, and extensive grazing land near Sherpa villages. The trail follows raging rivers like the Tamur and Ghunsa Rivers high into the mountains and closer to their source. The trail drops down to the Ghunsa Khola Valley and the quaint Sherpa village of Ghunsa. From Ghunsa, the trail takes us to Kanchenjunga and Kanchenjunga Glacier, offering breathtaking views of the enormous mountains surrounding us. The trail then heads back to Ghunsa and crosses three mountain passes before arriving at Tseram Village and Southern Kanchenjunga Base Camp. The maximum altitude reached at the Kanchenjunga Base Camp is 5143m.
