The Jiri to Everest Base Camp trek, also known as the “Old Route” or “Classic Route” to Everest, is a historic trekking trail in Nepal that predates the construction of Lukla Airport. It begins in Jiri, a town in the lower Solukhumbu region, and follows a trail through lush forests, terraced farmland, and traditional Sherpa villages. The route offers a more gradual acclimatization compared to the Lukla route, reducing the risk of altitude-related issues. After reaching Namche Bazaar, the trail merges with the main Everest Base Camp trail, leading to Tengboche Monastery, Dingboche, Lobuche, Gorak Shep, and finally Everest Base Camp. The trek offers a more authentic and less crowded experience, allowing trekkers to interact with local Sherpa communities and experience the region’s rich cultural heritage.
