This trek starts in the stunning Rowaling Valley, northeast of Kathmandu and west of the Everest/Kumbu region. Rolwaling is a deep Himalayan valley under the giant Gaurishankar snow peak and considered a holy sanctuary by local Buddhists. The name means “valley carved by a plough,” and its steep cliffs resemble a plough-carved furrow. The region is rarely trekked but offers rewarding forests and views. The trek involves climbing three peaks, crossing the Teshi Lapcha La Pass (5700M) between the Rowaling and Khumbu areas, and leaving the Rolwaling Valley. The trek requires basic winter skills and good mountaineering clothing and boots. After crossing the pass, the trek continues to the famous Khumbu region, passing Namche Bazar before heading south towards Lukla and a flight back to Kathmandu. The Rowaling and Khumbu valleys are renowned for their spectacular trekking locations, with Sherpa and Tamang culture amidst towering peaks, glaciers, and lakes.
